has anyone been to Rishikesh, India to study yoga? Or have any recommendations of ashrams that had a holistic approach to yoga? OR any experiences that you would like to share?
i will be traveling to india in two months near Rishikesh with no specific place in mind. only the intention to deepen my yogic practice. i am open to more information that anyone has to offer for someone who has never been to india .

Re: ashram search~ whats the most memorable ashram experience you've had?
Fri, January 30, 2009 - 1:51 PMNamaste Reida
but the most profound expereince I have ever had, has not been in any temple or ashram. It has been in my home in mumbai
when I was meditating , at night , with eyes closed and thoughts switched off. The peace that I felt , sleeping in the universe's womb
the realization that I will always be connected to her, even if my body or ego ceases to exist..the sweet necter , that she feeds me
through that connection that we have. It was the most profound and life changing experience I ever had.
I have never been to Rishikesh, but my wife has been and she says its a wonderfully serene place. You could do japa to quieten your mind.
or wear a rudraksha ( 11 mukhi or 14 mukhi ) on the forehead and sit under any tree or even at your home in a comfortable place (preferably in vajrasana (www.hindunet.org/yogasanas/vajrasan.htm) or padmasana ), to experience the wonderful universe.
Om Namah Shivaaya
