I was wondering if anyone knew of any movements that might help strengthen the lower back. The person holds alot of stress there and needs to get it into a stonger place because it keeps going out. They end up walking sideways and in a lot of pain. It started with trying to lift something (a down tree that was too big) and took the whole summer to heal. Then again this year when having to lift something away (twisting) in an emergency situation and then again recently because of an extremely emotional and traumatic event... I know a few simple moves, but I don't think that they are as much strengthening as they are moving energy (which is good for the situation also).

Re: any suggestions for strengthening the lower back?
Tue, December 9, 2008 - 12:15 AMyay 5 tibetans! this practice cultivates good energy.
my daily practice is meditating, starting with tonal humming and moving towards kundalini chakra meditating. The 5 tibetans, followed by Tai Chi and tonal "yelling" to release and redirect all energy built through the exercises.
Doing this seems to give ample ability to stay aware for the larger portion of the day, it also builds monumental kundalini energy. -

Re: any suggestions for strengthening the lower back?
Fri, December 12, 2008 - 5:33 AMthank you for the great suggestions, they will go perfectly with the few moves that I had in mind to suggest. His back was so bad he finally went to acupuncture (which I had been wanting for him to go to for a while) and he was in there a while, but it really helped. I guess the muscles were so locked tight that he was having a hard time getting the needles to go where he wanted and had to manuver around underneath. He was so much straighter and in so much less pain afterward, now he can start to do some of these movements. Again, thanks for the suggestions!

Sat, September 12, 2009 - 8:46 PMI also want to throw in that sit ups and crunches are often exactly what's needed. Muscles (like the mind) often work in pairs of opposites, so back problems can sometimes indicate insufficient support from the abdominals.

Re: any suggestions for strengthening the lower back?
Sat, September 12, 2009 - 8:49 PMon hands and knees, lift right arm straight forward and left leg straight backward. Hold for a few breaths, repeat other side. Build up to 10 rep's each side. Strengthens core and low back.
