Greetings all,
I am writing to seek advice regarding a specific style of yoga meditation that I have come to enjoy, it's similarities to Kundalini yoga and it's safety. I would love to hear all of your differing opinions, and it would be even better if I could find someone in Wisconsin who practices kundalini yoga/meditation who would be interested in having a conversation with me.
First of all I must state that I am very new to meditation (avg once per week to once per month for the last 1.5 years), so I do appologize for any naiveté.
I have been practicing yoga on and off most of my life and have gotten very into my practice over the last few years, I also have been enjoying meditation but hadn't quite found the one that was right for me. I tried Buddhist meditation, a christian based chakra balancing meditation (that was just odd), and Twin Hearts meditation - which I loved with the instructor in my old city but have relocated and the Twin Hearts group in my new city is just not the same. ANYWHO, I came across this program called "Chakra Balancing - A guide to healing and awakening your energy body" by Anodea Judith. It consists of Chakra evaluating meditation, guided sun salutation yoga meditation that goes through each of the chakras, and a sitting meditation. In it there is much mention of imagining Kundalini.
I have done this yoga/meditation program twice and really enjoyed it! However, for about 24 after doing this yoga meditation I felt very wired and had a rush of energy and jitters! Not completely pleasant but not completely unpleasant either. I am wondering if this is Kundalini energy and if I should not do this program again for risk of awakening energy that I am not ready to channel?
I wrote to the author questioning the safety of the program, and she told me that the program was designed to cleanse the chakras for a pleasant passing of Kundalini energy when the person is ready. She also told me that few people who try for Kundalini awakening are ever able to have a full Kundalini awakening.
I have found though through the small amount of meditation experience that I have that I am very good at visualizing and focusing my energy, I have had some very strong physical and emotional sensations when doing Twin Hearts meditations focusing on the heart and crown chakras. I do not know enough about Kundalini to know if this mediation is safe or not, I do not want to accidentally awaken Kundalini before I am ready, and I don't feel ready at this point in time.
However, I am a self admitted worry-wort and could just be interpreting high energy levels from healthy chakras as anxiety and Kundalini.
I really enjoyed doing this program and want to continue if it is safe! I have tried to contact teachers of Kundalini yoga in my area but all who I have spoken with just try to get me to take a class with them first- I just want to ask questions!!!
Please give me your opinions, especially if you have any experience with the Chakra Balancing by Anodea Judith. Also if you are a Kundalini practitioner in Wisconsin I would love to hear from you.
Thank you.

Re: Seeking opinions on yoga meditation, also looking for Wisconsin guru for advice
Tue, September 8, 2009 - 4:50 PMYou say you really enjoy the meditation and the effects aren't all that bothersome. Seems like, on the whole, it's a good thing.
Many times, a meditation or kriya can open up blocked energy stored in the body. When the channels open, the energy floods out for a while, much like a dam breaking. After that initial rush, the intense effects tend to settle down. If it's too much, there are tricks that can help dissipate the energy. Eating certain fruits/vegetables/spices, taking a bath or shower, getting the feet wet, placing the palm at the third eye and breathing slow can all help, but they seem to be hit/miss depending on the person and the moment.
Regardless, I wouldn't worry too much. Just let the energy flow and don't resist it too much. But if you find it's having an adverse effect, then cut the time down or stop.

Re: Seeking opinions on yoga meditation, also looking for Wisconsin guru for advice
Tue, September 8, 2009 - 5:52 PMNamaste,
Yes it is awakening and may be due to your meditation and also due to following of that book.
Awakening is not always(every moment) is full of joy and pleasure but some time wired also as you said here. But no need to be afraid and continue if you are ready and stop if you are not.
I would suggest to have proper Guru/Master/Guide to help you in this matter in person as this will help you lot in channeling the Divine Energy with less efforts and pain.
